WINMAIL.DAT OPENER
Open Winmail.dat and extract the attachments
A winmail.dat attachment usually appears when Microsoft Outlook or Exchange packages message data and attachments in the TNEF format. Other mail apps may show only the Winmail.dat or ATT00001.dat file instead of the documents the sender intended to attach. MSG Opener can unpack many of these files directly in your browser.
How to open Winmail.dat
- Save the winmail.dat or ATT00001.dat attachment to your device.
- Open MSGOpener.com and choose the saved file.
- The browser identifies the TNEF package and lists the files it can recover.
- Select Download beside one file, or use Download all when that option is available.
Why did I receive a Winmail.dat file?
Winmail.dat is associated with Microsoft’s Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF). It can appear when an Outlook or Exchange sender uses formatting or message features that the recipient’s mail app does not interpret directly. The intended PDF, document or image may still be inside the TNEF package even though your email app shows only one .dat attachment.
What MSG Opener can recover
The tool focuses on extracting files and readable message information that can be interpreted from the package. TNEF can also carry Outlook-specific properties that do not always have a useful equivalent outside Outlook, so not every package will look identical after extraction.
Private by design
The Winmail.dat package is interpreted by JavaScript running on your device. MSG Opener does not upload, receive or store the file or its extracted attachments. Recovered files can still contain unsafe content, so only open downloads you trust and use normal security checks when appropriate.
Use the free browser viewer on the MSG Opener home page. The selected email is processed on your device.
