FILE SAFETY
Is an MSG file safe?
An MSG file is not automatically dangerous, but neither its Outlook format nor its sender guarantees safety. It can contain deceptive text, tracking images, links and potentially harmful attachments.
Before opening a message
- Confirm that you expected the file and recognize its source.
- Be suspicious of urgent payment, password or account requests.
- Do not assume an attachment is safe because the message displays correctly.
- Scan downloaded files with current security software.
Protections in MSG Opener
The viewer processes MSG data locally and its formatted view blocks remote images, scripts, forms, frames and clickable links. These safeguards reduce exposure; they do not detect malware or verify the sender.
Inspect a message with remote content disabled.
