Convert an MSG email to plain text
A TXT export creates a lightweight, searchable copy of an Outlook message that can be opened by almost any computer or mobile device. MSG Opener generates the text file inside your browser and downloads it directly to your device.
What the TXT export includes
- Message subject
- Sender and recipients
- CC recipients and date when available
- Readable plain-text message body
- A list of attachment filenames
How to save an MSG as TXT
- Open the MSG file on the main viewer.
- Confirm that the message displays correctly.
- Select Save TXT in the viewer toolbar.
- Your browser downloads the locally created text file.
What is not included
Plain text does not preserve the visual formatting of an HTML email, embedded fonts or layout. The original attachment files are also not placed inside the TXT file. They remain available as separate downloads from the attachment section of the viewer.
When a text copy is useful
TXT can be convenient when you need a simple searchable record, want to paste the message into another text-based workflow or need a format that opens almost everywhere. Keep the original MSG file when preserving Outlook-specific metadata or the original message container is important.
